Serving you and your family since 1921

The Wedlake’s have been funeral directors in the Bugle area since 1816, in 1921 Fitzroy Wedlake (pictured above) set up his funeral business in Higher Bugle, St Austell, Cornwall as V F Wedlake and Son. The funerals, like many of the time, ran alongside the carpentry and joinery business.

This business was taken over by Mr Wedlake’s Son Geoff, who in turn handed the business over to his Son’s Alan and Roderick. Alan looked after the funeral side of the business but sadly died young so his younger brother Roderick took over the business . In 1989 the Purpose built Chapel of Rest was built at

2 Higher Bugle, St Austell, Cornwall and has been a place for families to arrange funerals and visit their loved ones. In time Roderick gave up the carpentry and joinery business to focus on his funeral families. In 2018 the funeral home was completely refurbished to meet the needs of a modern funeral home. Nick Jago, an experienced funeral director, has now been entrusted with the business and looks after the day to day needs of the clients and community.
